The International Association for Cereal Science and Technology (ICC) was founded in 1955 and has its headquarters and its General Secretariat in Vienna, Austria. ICC is an independent, internationally recognized organisation of experts in the cereal field. ICC is a non-political, non-profit-making, neutral forum for cereal scientists and technologists. ICC is publisher of international standard methods and an important organizer of national and international events. ICC is a promoter of international cooperation on a global, regional and national level and a mediator between science and technology in research and practice. At present more than 50 countries are represented in the ICC. The research and communication activities of ICC are for the most part carried on by more than 40 Working and Study Groups, each of which is chaired by an expert particularly qualified in the special field in question. Congresses and Symposia, which ICC holds at regular intervals, offer opportunities for a direct exchange of views about developments and progress in the various disciplines, and the reports about these meetings help disseminate the most recent findings. Examples of ICC publications are Standard Methods, Newsletter, Multilingual Dictionary, Who is Who in the World of Cereal Science, Conference Proceedings, Conference Books, etc. Recently, ICC was successful co-ordinator and organizer of an EU conference (EU/ICC Cereal Conference 2002, "ECC 2002", Implementation of the European Research Area, March 6-8, 2002, Vienna, Austria).
