Assoc Prof Afaf Kamal-Eldin Afaf Kamal-Eldin

Assoc Prof Afaf Kamal-Eldin is a senior researcher at the Division of plant Product Science. Her research includes chemical, technological and nutritional studies on tocopherols, tocotrienols, plant lignans and alkylresorcinols. She has been the main supervisor of 2 PhD students and published about 50 original scientific papers in referred journals. She has a wide international collaboration and is in charge of or involved in several Swedish, Nordic, European and American research projects.

 
 
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) consists of four faculties and has about 3000 employees. Teaching, research and information are the three main tasks for the university. The university has a long tradition in taking part in different EU programs. At the Division of Plant Product Science within the Department of Food Science about 20 people are working of which 6 are senior scientists. Ongoing research includes chemical, technological and nutritional studies on plant products with a focus on dietary fibre, starch and bioactive compounds. At the moment the division takes part in two EU projects (SOLFIBREAD and HEATOX)

The division has access to modern laboratories and animal rooms. Advanced chromatographic and spectroscopic (MS and NMR) methods are used for the characterization of plant foods.
