As a non-profit research consortium specialised in food research, Tecnoalimenti S.C.p.A. is composed of 26 food sector industries and one financial institution, San Paolo IMI, as trustee of ministerial funds. Its member industries account for 12% of Italian food sales. Founded in 1981, the organisation has a record of over 400 research projects both national and European, acquiring high level skills in project set-up, management and technological transfer. Tecnoalimenti was founded for promoting, co-ordinating, executing industrial research and managing research results, and today is the leader organisation at national level within the agro-food sector. Quality certified UNI EN ISO 9001:2000 and member of EARTO, European Association of Research and Technology Organisations.

The main institutional activity of Tecnoalimenti can be defined as "porteur de projet". Playing the role of project "engine", Tecnoalimenti is assuring to its member industries as well as to its network players a continuous flow of resources for the support of their scientific activities. In doing this, it acquired a relevant credibility within the research community, also at international level. Representing a unique industrial platform which integrates horizontally and vertically the main industrial players of the food chain, Tecnoalimenti is often required to play the role of stakeholder of the agro-food industry.

Tecnoalimenti has a wide experience in involving industry (large and SMEs) in research activities, due to its institutional function of bridging industry and research players. Since 25 years Tecnoalimenti is active on the market of agro-food innovation, leading a flow of orders and contracts from industry towards University and RTO.
